    She was working as a language teacher when actor/director Raymond St. Jacques heard her at a poetry reading and cast her in 'Book of Numbers.'
    After the 2004 accident, she required emergency surgery for a puncture wound to her aorta caused by a broken rib, and she also suffered a broken arm and ankle.
    She received NAACP Image Awards for 'Soul Food' and 'The Ladykillers' and a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for 'The Ladykillers.'
