Vocalist

The Resume

    (December 11, 1940- )
    Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Keyboardist and co-lead singer of Bread
Recorded the solo singles ‘Never Let Her Go’ (1975), ‘The Goodbye Girl’ (1977), and ‘Took the Last Train’ (1978)

Why he might be annoying:

Before joining Bread, he recorded under the pseudonyms the Manchesters and Del Ashley.
He was sued by the other lead singer of Bread, Jimmy Griffin, after touring as David Gates & Bread (1978).
He padded out the ‘Goodbye Girl’ album by including tracks from his previous solo records.
He was not nearly as successful as a solo artist as he had been as a member of Bread.

Why he might not be annoying:

He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Jo Rita, for over 50 years.
He wrote the girl group hit ‘Popsicles and Icicles’ for the Murmaids.
In an unlikely teaming, he produced a couple of singles for avant-garde rocker Captain Beefheart.
He bought a 1400-acre cattle ranch with his songwriter royalties.
He does not mind being labelled ‘easy listening’ or ‘soft rock’: ‘There are millions of people who like soft rock, and to them it’s really cool.’
