    (December 1, 1911-October 1, 1984)
    Born in Venice, Ohio
Manager of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (1954-76)

Why he might be annoying:

He financed his way through college by hustling pool.
His Major League career as a player lasted a single game (for the St. Louis Cardinals), in which he struck out during his only at bat and made one error in two fielding chances (September 27, 1936).
He had seen only one Dodgers game before becoming the team's manager.
Bobby Valentine said, 'He tries to avoid confrontation. Not because it is a way of smoothing things out, but because he doesn't know what to do in a crisis.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married to Dorothy LaVerne for 54 years until his death.
In college, he was captain of both the baseball and basketball teams.
He was a schoolteacher in the off season when he played in the minors.
He was the winning manager in the All-Star Game a record seven times.
Despite his consistent success, the Dodgers never offered him a multi-year contract.
