Also scored 'The War of the Worlds (1938 radio broadcast),' 'Citizen Kane (1941),' 'The Magnificent Ambersons (1942),' 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947),' 'The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951),' 'The Twilight Zone (1959-1965),' 'Cape Fear (1962),' 'Jason and the Argonauts (1963)' and 'Taxi Driver (1976)'

Why he might be annoying:

He was rude and egotistical.
He had a horrible temper.
An actor who worked with him said: 'I don't think I ever saw Benny happy.'
He was a poor violinist and a worse singer.
He ignored what the film makers told him and did whatever he wanted instead.
He hated jazz and pop music.
He described all film music but his own as 'a bunch of junk.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His famous scores for Alfred Hitchcock were never nominated for Oscars.
Hitchcock fired him for refusing to write in a pop style, and never spoke to him again.
There was another composer named Bernard Herrmann, and their mail got mixed up all the time.
His film scores are among the most brilliant of all time.
He didn't want to be remembered as a movie composer, but he is.
