Portrayed Laverne Hooks in six Police Academy films (1984-89)
Appeared on Broadway in 'Hello, Dolly!' (1964) and 'Eubie!' (1978)
Why she might be annoying
She was a cast member in Bill Cosby's short-lived sketch comedy show, 'Cos.' (1976)
She wore a fat suit for her role as Laverne Hooks. The Police Academy producers originally planned for her character to get thinner as the movie series progressed, but ultimately decided against it.
She based her voice as Hooks* on Michael Jackson. (*Except, of course, when yelling 'Don't move, dirtbag!')
During a fight scene in Police Academy 2, she accidentally punched actor Lance Kinsey in the jaw for real.
Why she might not be annoying
She was a member of the choir in the first production of Leonard Bernstein's 'Mass.' (1971)
She appeared in the New York Shakespeare Festival production of 'Two Gentlemen of Verona.' (1973)
She reprised her Hooks voice for an episode of Robot Chicken>
She was a regular performer at the annual AIDS awareness event 'Divas Simply Singing.'
