The Resume

    (April 6, 1903-June 28, 1962)
    Born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts
Birth name was Gordon Stanley Cochrane
Catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics (1925-33) and Detroit Tigers (1934-37)
    .320 batting average
    119 home runs
    832 RBIs
    American League MVP (1934)
Manager for the Detroit Tigers (1934-38)
    348-250 win-loss record
Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (1947)

Why he might be annoying:

He had a short temper, with Doc Cramer saying 'Lose a 1-0 game and you didn't want to be in the clubhouse with [Lefty] Grove and Cochrane. You'd be ducking stools and gloves and bats and whatever else could fly.'
He was widely blamed for the A's loss in the 1931 World Series, when the Cardinals stole eight bases.
He suffered a nervous breakdown (1936).
Despite his Hall of Fame status, as of the end of 2012 neither the Athletics nor Tigers had retired his uniform number.

Why he might not be annoying:

His competitiveness was widely credited with driving the Tigers, who had been predicted to finish in 4th or 5th place, to their first pennant in 25 years (1934).
His playing career came to a sudden end when he was hit in the head by a pitch, suffering a skull fracture that nearly killed him (May 25, 1937).
Despite his head injury, he served in the Navy during WWII. (Albeit as the coach of the Great Lakes Training Center's baseball team and as director of a rec center on Guam.)
His only son was killed at Normandy in the D-Day landings.
Mickey Mantle was named after him.
