    Her monument designs created heated controversy.
    Some angry Vietnam vets protested her design as not being heroic or paying tribute to dead soldiers.
    One Vietnam vet called her monument a 'black gash of shame.'
    Secretary of the Interior James Watt threatened to veto her Vietnam Memorial design.
    She upset some southerners by creating the Civil Rights Monument.
    Her memorials have been vandalized.
