Why Friday Night Lights might be annoying:

While the Bissinger book and the film documented real events, the TV series is fictionalized, including renaming the team.
It has its teen characters have as many relationships as possible.
Several of their 'teen' characters are portrayed by those in their mid-20's.
It wraps up storylines a little too conveniently.
Though much of the content is not focused on the football aspect, it was originally marketed as a sports show.
It has struggled with its ratings.
It wasn't broadcast on Friday nights on NBC until its second season.
Many fans and critics felt its second season had a major drop in quality and realism.
Its name is similar to a very different NBC series, 'Saturday Night Live.'

Why Friday Night Lights might not be annoying:

Peter Berg used the series as a way to address many of the themes in the book that he couldn't within the time constraints of a film.
It tackles many relevant and controversial teen topics such as racism, alcoholism, teen sex and parent-child tension.
It allows its actors to improvise their movements and the delivery of their lines.
Many critics included it on their 'Best TV Series' lists after the first season.
Its pilot won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
It is shot around actual locations in Texas and casts several locals as extras.
It has a strong cult following.
Connie Britton and Brad Leland, who appeared in the film version, were brought back to portray similar roles on the series.
