Why he might be annoying:

Rep. Dan Burton demanded an investigation into the use of White House staff and stationery to answer letters addressed to Socks.
He was demoted from principal White House pet when Bill acquired a dog, Buddy.
He took repeated swipes at Buddy.
Hillary Clinton said he 'despised Buddy at first sight, instantly and forever.'
When the Clintons left the White House, he was given to former Clinton secretary Betty Currie.

Why he might not be annoying:

In the White House, he frequently shared his food and water with a stray tabby nicknamed Slippers.
Children visiting the White House web site were guided by a cartoon version of Socks.
Michael O'Donoghue's last book was 'Socks Goes to Washington: The Diary of America's First Cat.'
