The Resume

    (November 29, 1927-March 5, 1973)
    Born in Manhattan, New York
Acted in 'Too Late Blues,' 'Marnie,' 'Wild Seed,' and 'Ride in the Whirlwind'

Why he might be annoying:

He acted in two Bill Cosby properties (The Bill Cosby Show and I Spy).
He had a small part in Alfred Hitchcock’s disastrous ‘Marnie.’
His show ‘The Partners’ - a spin-off of the 1971 TV movie ‘Confessions of a Top Crime Buster’ - was canceled due to low ratings (it was forced to compete in the time slot occupied the juggernaut that was All in the Family).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a lifetime member of the Actors Studio.
He won a Venice Film Festival Award for 'Shadows.'
He was good friends with Jack Nicholson.
Jack Nicholson insisted that he be cast opposite him in ‘The Last Detail,’ but terminal illness forced him to pull out of the project and turn down all further offers.
He was the first African-American to receive a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.
When Jack Nicholson won his third Oscar for ‘As Good as It Gets,’ he was one of the friends Jack dedicated his win to.
