Automaker

The Resume

    (March 17, 1834-March 6, 1900)
    Born in Schorndorf, Germany
Designed internal combustion engines, the first four-wheel auto and the first motorcycle
Founded the Daimler Motor Geschellschaft (1890), which evolved into Daimler-Benz (1926), Daimler-Chrysler (1998) and Daimler AG (2007)

Why he might be annoying:

Despite being an automotive pioneer, he never drove a car.
Before establishing his own company, he left a number of engineering firms after clashing with the management.
He ignored doctors' orders to stay in bed and insisted on being driven in bad weather to inspect a potential factory site; the trip accelerated his declining health, contributing to his death the next spring.

Why he might not be annoying:

By making the internal combustion engine small, lightweight and fast-running, he made the automotive revolution possible.
His company gained renown after the first Paris to Rouen race (1894), when 102 cars started, only 15 finished -- and all 15 were powered by Daimler engines.
His personal motto was 'The best or nothing at all.'
