Football Player

The Resume

    (April 3, 1934-July 18, 2005)
    Born in Macon, Georgia
    Attended Ohio State University
Offensive linesman for the Baltimore Colts (1957-67)
    Eight-time Pro Bowler (1958-65)
Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1973) and College Football Hall of Fame (1974)
    #77 retired by the Colts

Why he might be annoying:

To bulk up for high school football (he started playing at 105 pounds), 'My daddy bought a case of oatmeal and a case of grits, and had me eat it three times a day.'
He got so worked up in the locker room that he would run into teammates without realizing it; Colts right end Jim Multscheller noted, 'I'd be black and blue before the game started.'
He blamed the break-up of his first marriage on football: 'Instead of spending time with my family, I was putting time in down in the basement, looking at films of defensive ends.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was named to the Sports Illustrated all-century college football team (1999).
Ohio State coach Woody Hayes said, 'Physically, Jim was in a class by himself. Attitude-wise, he was even greater.'
He changed positions during the 1962 season, resulting in him being named All-Pro as both a tackle and a guard.
Chicago Bears defensive end Doug Atkins said, 'You had to hit Jim full speed, and sometimes that still didn't budge him.'
He was a unanimous selection for both the NFL's 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams.
