Why they might be annoying:

Their elaborate stage shows, featuring more than 20 performers, left the band perpetually short of money.
Spooner said, 'We had to get weird so somebody would notice us.... We got instant negativity so we knew we had something.'
Waybill said of their fans, 'Some of these kids don't have the faintest idea that the whole thing's a parody.'
They appeared in the god awful film 'Xanadu.'

Why they might not be annoying:

Proving to be well ahead of the times, they got a deal with A&M Records by submitting a 'video demo.' (1974)
Prince and Cotten were graphic artists who designed album covers and sets for Todd Rundgren, Billy Joel, Styx and Bette Midler.
They were one of the nominees for the first Grammy given for videos (1981).
Their live shows were described in Newsweek as combining 'touches of Spike Jones, Monty Python and Chiquita Banana' and satirizing 'everything from TV game shows to rock superstardom.'
