The Resume

    (February 8, 1909-December 5, 2012)
    Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Birth name was Elisabeth Joy Greene
    Married publisher Keith Murdoch
Mother of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch
President of the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne (1954-65)
Patron or trustee of the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, the Royal Women's Hospital, the Deafness Foundation of Victoria, the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Victorian Tapestry Workshop
Named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her philanthropic endeavors (1963)

Why she might be annoying:

She married Keith Murdoch when she was 19 and he was 42.
She criticized Rupert for marrying a woman 37 years his junior, which seems a tad hypocritical.
Despite being the wife and mother of publishers, she would go days without looking at a newspaper.
She was the reason Rupert's Australian tabloids never ran the nude Page Three Girl photos featured in his English tabloids.
Announcing her death via Twitter, Rupert initially gave her age as 193.
Rupert cited her longevity as evidence that he would continue running News Corp for years to come.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She supported over 100 charities.
She said, 'Probably the most useful contribution one can make is to forget oneself and care for others.'
When Rupert told her that he had bought the rights to publish the Hitler diaries in the Sunday Times, she was astute enough to tell him he had been taken.
She said her 'secret vice' was a weekly bridge game.
In her 80s, she would sleep only four or five hours and rise at dawn for a swim.
On receiving an electric golf cart for her 80th birthday, she said it would be useful for taking her older friends around her estate.
Noting her continuing involvement in charities as she hit the century mark, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd described her as 'turbo charged.'
