The Resume

    (August 31, 1939-August 22, 2022)
    Born in Hillsboro, Texas
Drummer for Buddy Holly and the Crickets
Co-wrote the songs ‘That’ll Be the Day’ and ‘Peggy Sue’
Led the Crickets after Holly’s death

Why he might be annoying:

His only charting solo single, a cover of ‘Real Wild Child’ (1958), was released under the pseudonym Ivan (his middle name).
’Peggy Sue’ was originally going to be called ‘Cindy Lou’ (after Holly’s niece), but he asked Holly to change the title as a way of winning back his girlfriend, Peggy Sue Gerron after a breakup.
He and Peggy Sue got married and divorced.

Why he might not be annoying:

‘Peggy Sue’ was originally credited just to him and producer Norman Petty, but he insisted that Holly be listed as a songwriter.
AllMusic wrote, ‘Allison's drumming brought a new dimension to rock & roll timekeeping.’
He and Gerron were guests at the house of Holly’s parents when they learned about Holly’s death in a plane crash.
He and fellow Cricket Sonny Curtis wrote ‘More Than I Can Say,’ which became a hit for Bobby Vee (#4 in the UK, 1960) and Leo Sayer (#2 in the US, 1980).
He (and fellow Crickets Curtis, Joe B. Mauldin, and Nikki Sullivan) made a belated entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2012), when the Hall decided to include the backing bands of several previous inductees.
