The Resume

    (June 5, 1909-February 11, 1988)
Born in Dumferline, Scotland, United Kingdom
Hired by King George VI and Queen Consort Elizabeth as governess for their daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret
Wrote (with Jennie Bond) the book ‘The Little Princesses’ (1950)

Why she might be annoying:

She was the first servant to cash in on the private lives of the Royal Family.
The American edition of ‘The Little Princesses’ erroneously described her as Elizabeth and Margaret’s nanny instead of their governess.
Her revelation of the frosty relationship between King George and the Duchess of Windsor appalled Elizabeth, who commented to Lady Astor, ‘The governess has gone off her head.’
She lent her name as the byline for a column in the magazine ‘Woman’s Own’ that was actually written by journalists several weeks in advance.
This was exposed when the column described the Trooping of the Colour and the Ascot Races, which had both been cancelled because of a national railway strike (1955).

Why she might not be annoying:

She did not retire as governess until Princess Elizabeth, by then 21, married Prince Philip.
She had also delayed her own marriage by sixteen years.
After publication of ‘The Little Princesses,’ the Royal Family completely ostracized her.
They never visited her even though they regularly drove past her house on the way to Balmoral Castle.
No one from the Royal Family sent a wreath to her funeral.
