Football Player

The Resume

    (June 8, 1939-October 30, 2020)
    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Cornerback for the Green Bay Packers (1961-69) and Dallas Cowboys (1970-72)
    48 interceptions
    14 fumble recoveries
    120 kickoff returns
    Five-time Pro Bowler (1963-67)

Why he might be annoying:

He started at Green Bay on offense as a halfback, only moving to cornerback to replace an injured teammate. (Coach <7564>Vince Lombardi<7564> said, 'I was too stubborn to switch him to defense until I had to. It scares me to think of how I almost mishandled him.')
He accused Lombardi's successor, Phil Bengtson, of keeping him from making the 1969 Pro Bowl and demanded to be traded.
He accused coach Tom Landry of having a quota for black players on the Cowboys.
When he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, he refused to report and retired from football instead.
He said, 'I'm the only man with a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl ring not to wear it. I'm a Green Bay Packer.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Quarterback Bart Starr called him 'the greatest cornerback to ever play the game.'
He is one of only six NFL players to be on six championship teams.
He was the first player to score a touchdown on an interception in the Super Bowl (Super Bowl II, January 14, 1968).
He was the lead plaintiff (on behalf of over 2,000 retired players) in a lawsuit accusing the Players Association of failing to pay licensing fees when their images were used in video games and on trading cards. The case was settled for $26.25 million (2009).
