Why Dick Van Dyke Show might be annoying:

Mary Tyler Moore lied about her age to land her role.
The opening theme had lyrics which were written by Morey Amsterdam, but were never used.
It was almost cancelled after the first season.
Rose Marie disliked Mary Tyler Moore for becoming a major role in the series after her character proved to be less popular than Mary's.
It started a Capri pants fashion craze after Mary Tyler Moore wore them on the show in the early 1960's.
It featured Larry Mathews as Ritchie, one of the most irritating child characters in sitcom history.
It originally had Carl Reiner as the lead, but the network thought he was too intellectual, too New York and too Jewish (and we all know a show like that can't succeed).
During its original run, it was shot only in black and white as Carl Reiner wanted to keep the production cost low.
In the first episode Laura Petrie was called Laurie.

Why Dick Van Dyke Show might not be annoying:

Dick Van Dyke left his award-winning role in the Broadway hit 'Bye Bye Birdie' to do the show.
Carl Reiner specifically made clear that no slang was to be used on the show, thus giving it more of a timeless appeal.
Dick Van Dyke initially questioned casting Mary Tyler Moore as his wife, saying that she was too young to convincingly play her.
They eventually worked so well together that viewers thought they were actually married in real life.
They successfully fought the network over the 'skirt-pants' issue, with Mary Tyler Moore arguing that she rarely saw an actual housewife wear a dress.
It popularized the whole 'dream episode' idea that has become commonplace within many sitcoms.
It stopped running while it was still ahead, despite CBS begging them to continue the show.
Almost 40 years after the show went off the air, they aired a single brand new episode with most of the surviving cast (Summer 2004).
