Why he might be annoying:

At age 24 he took a stage name from 2 towns; Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas.
He was thrice married, his first marriage lasting just one year (1953-54).
He sang rock & roll in the late '50s, switching to country in the '60s.
Some radio stations refused to play his 1973 #1 smash 'You've Never Been This Far Before' because the lyrics were too risque.
He built a country music complex in 1982 and named it 'Twitty City.'
After he died his widow and 4 adult children bitterly fought over his estate to the point that most of his belongings had to be auctioned off.

Why he might not be annoying:

He received an offer to play for the Philadelphia Phillies out of high school, but was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
He's had an incredible 55 songs reach #1 on various music charts, more than Elvis and The Beatles combined.
'It's Only Make Believe' was #1 in 21 different countries and he rerecorded 'Hello Darlin' in Russian to honor a joint U.S./Soviet space mission.
He's been elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
