Why they might be annoying:

Their first album was rushed out so fast, the cover features Liberty Records stockroom employees wearing sunglasses in place of the band.
Wilson commented, 'When I read that the Ventures are the pioneers of surf music, I go 'What?' We were never a surf group.'
John Durrill, their keyboard player in the late 60s and 70s, wrote the cheesy hit 'Dark Lady' for Cher (1974).
In the late 70s, they became the 'New Ventures,' a disco/rock band with female singers.
They became much bigger in Japan than America.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their '2,000 Pound Bee' was the first single to feature fuzz guitar.
They outsold the Beatles 2 to 1 in Japan.
They were the first foreign members of Japan's Conservatory of Music.
They received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Guitar Player magazine (1993).
So many guitarists learned by playing along with their albums they were called 'the band that launched a thousand bands.'
