Why she might be annoying:

Benny adopted his trademark hand-on-cheek pose when she scratched his face before a photo shoot.
George Burns wrote that he and Gracie Allen loved Jack but merely tolerated Mary, who they found envious and vain.
She had a strained relationship with her adopted daughter, Joan.
She developed severe stage fright and retired from show biz in 1958.
Her name was misspelled without the final 'e' on her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Why she might not be annoying:

Jack refused to commit to a relationship with her until she got engaged to another man.
She and Jack were married for 48 years until his death.
Originally a temporary fill-in for an actress who failed to appear for Benny's radio show, she generated so much fan mail she was made a regular cast member.
She was so thoroughly identified with her role of Mary Livingstone that she legally changed her name to match.
