Basketball Coach

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He looks nerdy enough not to taken seriously as a coach.
He watched his Mavericks team gradually regress in the standings during his two full seasons with the team.
He was fired by the Mavericks, after a 2-27 start to the season (1992-93).
He was passed over for the Magic’s permanent head coaching job, despite the fact he guided them to a winning record after he took over from Brian Hill at mid-season (1997).
He posted an unimpressive 127-240 record in 367 NBA career games coached.
He resigned from the Mystics four games into the 2007 WNBA season in protest to the team’s off-season moves, along with his status as a lame-duck coach (hey, the team’s winless start further fueled his desire to leave).

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees, along with doctoral credits in administration from William Paterson University.
He was a high school teacher and coach, before making it to the college ranks.
He coached both Brian Hill and Mike Fratello in high school, and later served on both their coaching staffs in the NBA.
He earned the Mavericks head coaching job, after he guided the team to a 42-29 record upon taking over as an interim coach.
He guided the Magic to a 21-12 record, along with a near-upset of the Miami Heat in the first round (1997).
His run as the Magic head coach was impressive due to the fact he helped keep the team together a year after losing Shaquille O'Neal in free agency.
He is among a select handful of coaches to have coached in both the NBA and WNBA.
