    One of the 13 founders of the LPGA (1950)
    Won the US Amateur Women's Championship (1939-40), the Western Open (1942,1954) and the US Women's Open (1947)

    She spent her life pining over her college sweetheart, who ran off with a tennis player while she was spending two weeks in silence as part of a sorority pledge.
    She ditched her early career in journalism because she hated dealing with deadlines.
    She was heavily touted as the tour's 'glamour girl.'
    Toward, the end of her life she estimated she only had $40 to her name and relied on donations.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was the first woman to break 300 for 72 holes.
    She was forced to give up golf after developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
    Her career earnings of $91,740 were surpassed by 108 players in 2008 alone.
    LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens said, 'Generations of women have benefited from her dedication, vision and sacrifice.'
