Birth name was Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss
Wrote 'Disquisitiones Arithmeticae' (1801)
Contributed to number theory, statistics and differential geometry
Known as 'the Prince of Mathematicians'

Why he might be annoying:

He was a child prodigy.
His father wanted him to become a mason and opposed his interest in math.
He discouraged his own sons from entering mathematics or science for 'fear of sullying the family name.'
Interrupted during work with news that his wife was dying, he reportedly replied, 'Tell her to wait a moment until I finish.'
He hated to publish papers until he felt they were beyond criticism, so much of his work was published posthumously.
One mathematical historian estimated math would have been advanced fifty years if he made all his discoveries known in his lifetime.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was considered the greatest mathematician since antiquity.
He performed incredibly difficult calculations in his head.
The metric unit for magnetic induction was named the gauss in his honor.
He was depicted on the German 10 mark note (1989).
He called mathematics 'the divine science.'
