Martyr

The Resume

    (September 13, 1923-November 29, 1941)
    Born in Osinovy-Guy, Russian Federation
Soviet partisan during World War II
Went by the partisan code name Tanya
Fought guerrilla warfare against German occupation of the Soviet Union
Captured by Nazis near Petrishchevo while on combat assignment (November 17, 1941)
Tortured and hanged at age 18
Awarded the highest Russian civilian honor, the Hero of the Soviet Union (February 16, 1942)

Why she might be annoying:

Her full name, Zoya Anatolyevna Kosmodemyanskaya, is incredibly long and hard to pronounce.
She was detached and hard to read by her classmates.
Her mother tried to talk her out of joining the partisan resistance to no avail.
She was given up to the Nazis either by a captured co-conspirator or scared local villagers.
Josef Stalin used her death to start a propaganda campaign.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her teachers found her to be insightful and she thrived in literature.
Books, movies and statues memorialize her as well as an asteroid named in her honor.
Her favorite music was Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.
She volunteered for a partisan unit while still a high school student in Moscow.
Though Nazis beat her with rubber hoses, ripped her fingernails off and made her walk through snow in bare feet she would not give them any partisan names.
Staring at the gallows she told the gathered villagers, 'I am not afraid of dying, Comrades! It is a great thing to die for one's people!'
She then warned her captors, 'There are two hundred million of us! You can’t hang us all!'
After her death she was left hanging for over a week as a warning and her frozen body was used by Nazis for bayonet practice.
Red Army forces, including her brother, wiped out the German regiment responsible for her murder (October 1943).
