Celebrity's Relative

The Resume

    (1989-January 1, 2020)
Boyfriend to the late Bobbi Kristina Brown
Taken in by Whitney Houston at the age of 12
Raised alongside Bobbi Kristina for over a decade
Caused controversy when Bobbi Kristina announced her engagement to him on social media (Oct. 2012)
At the center of coverage surrounding her being found unresponsive in a bathtub, later being kept in a medically induced coma prior to being moved into hospice care until her death (January 31, 2015-July 26, 2015)
Identified by authorities as a potential 'person of interest' during investigations surrounding the circumstances of her death (July 26, 2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He got engaged to his surrogate sister.
He was accused of reckless driving and speeding in 2012.
He was arrested over suspicion of DUI with a suspended license (Aug. 2014).
He was accused of meddling in the handling of the Houston estate after Whitney's death.
Even though they identified as married, Bobby Brown's legal representatives claimed that the union wasn't legal because a wedding had never taken place.
Most of Brown's family disapproved of the romance, specifically Pat Houston, who insisted 'it just don't sit right with me,' because she saw them as 'a brother-and-sister type.'
Both he and Bobbi insisted there were no incestuous implications despite the fact that he referred to Whitney Houston as 'mom' and that Houston claimed to love him as if she had 'given birth to him.'
He was issued a restraining order to stay away from Bobbi's aunt, Pat Houston, after having a physical altercation with her son at a birthday party (and then engaging him on Twitter).
Court documents claimed that he 'made threatening comments' and harassed Pat Houston with text messages. They also charged him with posting photos of himself with guns to make her 'fearful for her personal safety.'
He was allegedly abusive with Bobbi Kristina, with legal reports claiming that he punched her in the face, knocked out one of her teeth, and even dragged her upstairs by the hair on one occasion.
His behavior during Bobbi Kristina's illness led many to suspect that he had something to do with the sorry condition she was in (transferring large amounts of her money into his own bank account, relaxing at a Florida resort while his wife was in a comatose state, etc.).
He repeatedly claimed that his voice could soothe her and 'wake her up,' further claiming that he had been denied access to his wife's hospital room. Bobby Brown fired back by stating that he had repeatedly offered and that he had been noncommittal each time.
His interview with Dr. Phil went viral after it devolved into 'an emotionally-charged intervention' with a, clearly intoxicated, Gordon repeatedly threatening suicide and effeminately crying 'Mommy! I lost the most legendary singer ever,' leading even more skeptics to claim that he had an ulterior motive (Mar. 11, 2015).

Why he might not be annoying:

He checked into rehab after the disastrous Dr. Phil interview.
He remained estranged from his mother for years after being left in the care of Whitney Houston at age 12.
He was never officially 'adopted' by Whitney Houston, likely because his biological mother refused to relinquish parental rights.
He was deeply upset when he was barred from Bobbi Kristina's funeral.
Let's face it, the Houston-Brown family was pretty dysfunctional long before Gordon ever came into the picture.
His story is more compelling than Claus Von Bulow's (although he's equally prone to drama).
He reportedly blamed himself for Whitney Houston's death and attempted suicide with an overdose of Zantac pills.
Whitney Houston had reportedly asked him to protect Bobbi Kristina if anything should happen to her. He later said 'I will never, ever, ever break that promise.'
He claimed that it was Bobbi’s grandmother who finally gave her blessing and supported them in their relationship, when other family members refused to.
He has a large tattoo of Whitney Houston's initials with doves and crosses on his wrist, along with a picture of Houston which was done in the late singer's memory, appropriately on her birthday.
