Why he might be annoying:

He banned political parties in Zambia, effectively ruling the country as a one-party state (1972).
He has the same initials as the famous restaurant in the TV series SpongeBob SquarePants.
He has seven sons and two daughters.
He called himself ‘WAMUYAYA’, meaning eternal president.
He thought that Zambia’s wealth can only be counted on copper, so he didn’t diversify the economy.
This, along with the mishandling of the economy and the decline of copper prices, quickly turned Zambia into a piss poor country.
He was friends with Saddam Hussein before the Persian Gulf War, and even named streets in Zambia after him.

Why he might not be annoying:

He led Zambia to independence and was imprisoned by the British government, which made him popular among Northern Rhodesian (Zambian) blacks.
He, along with several African countries, worked to deal with the white governments in South Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and South Africa.
He is the second head of state from mainland Africa to allow a multi party system when he lost an election.
He lost one of his sons to HIV/AIDS.
He worked with charities fighting HIV/AIDS.
He adopted the use of nonviolence as part of his campaign for independence.
He improved Zambia’s education system, which was one of the least developed under colonial rule.
