Why he might be annoying:

His trademark cartoon voice - a gruff bass baritone - got him typecast as villains, henchmen, and sometimes just really ugly side-characters.
At the drop of the hat, he could then shift to a high-pitched effeminate falsetto which somehow managed to sound even creepier.
Bud Abbott tried to revive his comedy act with Candido as his partner, but quit again after it became clear that they lacked the chemistry he had with Lou Costello.
He took part in the ‘What Makes the Red Man Red?’ sequence as the Indian Chief in Disney’s ‘Peter Pan’ - a scene so offensive that the company added a content warning to it in 2021.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had a four-octave speaking voice.
He was childhood friends with Louis Prima.
He began his career as an orchestra bass player.
He sang a duet with Fred Astaire in ‘Roberta.’
He was a regular with Jimmy Durante on the Durante-Moore radio show.
His weekly line ‘I’m feeling mighty low’ became a national catchphrase and even made its way into a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
He can be heard on several rides at Disneyland, including as Gus the deep voiced prisoner on the Haunted Mansion attraction and as the Red Devil at the end of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.
