Wrestler

The Resume

    (July 22, 1958-February 10, 1984)
    Born in Dallas, Texas
Birth name was David Alan Adkisson
Member of the Von Erich wrestling family
Others included father and family patriarch Fritz and brothers Kevin, Kerry, Mike and Chris
Wrestling moniker was The Yellow Rose of Texas
    Eight-time NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion
Feuded with wrestlers Ric Flair, 'Gorgeous' Jimmy Garvin and the Fabulous Freebirds
Died in Tokyo of acute enteritis resulting in a ruptured intestine and heart attack at age 35

Why he might be annoying:

He participated in a fake sport.
He gave up football and basketball scholarships from North Texas State University to join the 'family business.'
He divorced his first wife after just a year of marriage (1978-79).
The feud between him and Garvin was a complete put-on as the two were great friends outside the ring.
Flair indicated in his autobiography that drug use was to blame for his death and that pal Bruiser Brody removed evidence (never substantiated).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was named after his mom's brother who died of a brain tumor just months before his birth.
His infant daughter with his first wife died before the couple divorced.
He didn't need wrestling for the money as he made a fortune raising and selling show horses and quarter horses.
Two weeks before his fateful tour of Japan, he went to a hospital emergency room complaining of severe stomach ache and dizziness, but was given an antibiotic and sent on his way.
He was scheduled to win the NWA crown against Flair in May 1984 but died before it came to be, so his brother Kerry took his place and won the belt, wearing a robe with the quote 'In Memory of David.'
His was the second of five Von Erich brothers to die prematurely.
Brother Jack died from electrocution in the early '60s at age seven, and brothers Kerry, Mike and Chris all committed suicide between 1987-93.
