TV Executive

The Resume

    (May 16, 1947- )
    Born in New York
    Birth name is Andrew Lack
    President of NBC News (1993-2001)
    President of NBC (2001-03)
    Chairman/CEO of Sony (2003-08)
Chairman/CEO of Bloomberg Media Group (2008-14)
Chairman/CEO of NBC News and MSNBC (2015-May, 2020)

Why he might be annoying:

He looks like Dorothy's ex-husband Stan from The Golden Girls.
He was hired by NBC News in 1993 to restore confidence in the network after they were caught staging an explosion for a segment on truck safety.
He has been retroactively criticized for choosing to not run Ronan Farrow's story on Harvey Weinstein, thus leading to him taking it to the New York Times (it won a Pulitzer Prize in 2018).
He came under fire for his mishandling of sexual misconduct allegations against Today host Matt Lauer.
He left NBC News after clashing with Chairman Bob Wright, only to be brought back again to do damage control after the 2014 Brian Williams scandal.
Farrow later accused him of having ‘preyed on female underlings’ for sexual relationships in his book on the Weinstein scandal.
He presided over Megyn Kelly's disastrous multi-million dollar network deal that ended after barely a full year.
He stepped down from his position during a corporate shakeup after news broke that the New York Attorney General's office was investigating NBC on sexual abuse and sexual harassment claims (May 2020).

Why he might not be annoying:

He did some acting before he became an executive.
Unlike his CBS counterpart, however, he didn't use his position to advance his acting ambitions after climbing the corporate ladder.
He started his career in broadcasting by joining CBS News in 1976, where he remained for seventeen years.
His eight year tenure with NBC News was a huge success, moving the division to the head of its competition.
He set up the merger of Sony Music Entertainment with BMG, in 2003, securing it a continued relevance in the file-sharing age.
During his career in broadcasting and network news, he has won 16 Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards.
