Doctor

The Resume

    (December 24, 1940- )
    Born in Brookllyn, New York
    Immunologist
Made substantial contributions to HIV/AIDS research and other immunodeficiencies
Head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Appointed to the COVID-19/Coronavirus task force under President Donald Trump (2020)

Why he might be annoying:

His last name can be easily mispronounced as profanity.
He added to confusion by publicly contradicting the President's statements on the Coronavirus outbreak (in all fairness he was usually correcting misstatements).
He flip-flopped on the effectiveness of a travel ban, openly opposing banning travel from West Africa during the Ebola crisis (which Donald Trump criticized him for at the time), and then supporting a European travel ban as a response to the Corona pandemic.
He had to come out and publicly say he was not being 'muzzled' after it got out that the White House reportedly ordered him 'not to say anything’ about Coronavirus without clearance from the Vice President, first.
He admitted that the U.S. coronavirus testing system is 'a failing' when under pressure from Debbie Wasserman-Schultz during a Congressional hearing.

Why he might not be annoying:

He met his future wife - a nurse - while they were treating a patient.
He played a significant role in the creating the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief under President Bush in the early 2000's.
He played a role in driving development of biodefense drugs and vaccines following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
He has developed therapies which have successfully addressed previously fatal inflammatory and immunity diseases.
He has received honorary doctorate degrees from 45 universities worldwide.
He has been involved in over 1,300 scientific publications.
He is brutally honest and does not sugarcoat reality.
On advising the President, he said: 'You should never destroy your own credibility. And you don’t want to go to war with a president. But you got to walk the fine balance of making sure you continue to tell the truth.'
