The Resume

    (April 22, 1921-October 26, 1991)
    Born in Cleveland, Ohio
    Older sister to Dorothy Dandridge
Member of the Dandridge Sisters singing group (1934-40)
Appeared in the films 'Bright Road,' 'Stormy Weather,' 'The Big Broadcast of 1936,' 'It Can't Last Forever,' and 'Going Places'
Recorded ‘Love is Blue,’ ‘Try to Remember,’ ‘Sunny,’ ‘Strange Fruit,’ and ‘Lover Man’

Why she might be annoying:

    Her middle name was Alferetta.
Of her five marriages, four ended in divorce and one ended in an annulment.
She was very close with her younger sister Dorothy … until she became an Oscar nominated movie star (can you say sibling rivalry?).
In addition to her sister, she also had to contend with her mother (Ruby Dandridge) getting more film work than she did, albeit mostly in parts as maids and domestic workers.
Her most notable film role was the voice of Snow – um, ‘So White’ in the controversial parody cartoon ‘Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs’ (which is so racist that - outside of YouTube - it will never see the light of day again).
Into the late 1950’s she pulled away from the public eye to the point where Dorothy had to hire a private detective to find what if she was even alive.

Why she might not be annoying:

She and Dorothy were both victims of an abusive homelife.
She was Dorothy’s date for her appearance for the Academy Awards in 1955.
Although estranged from Dorothy, they were beginning to exchange telegrams at the time of her sister’s death.
She was unable to bring herself to attend Dorothy’s funeral, because it was too painful.
She later said: ‘I grieved in my own way, in my privacy. Dottie knew that I loved her.’
In 1991, historian Don Bogle interviewed her for a biography he was writing on Dorothy. Bogle returned later the same year, only to find that Vivian had died from a stroke only days earlier.
She was depicted sympathetically in the HBO film 'Introducing Dorothy Dandridge' (played by Cynda Williams).
