The Resume

    (March 12, 1949-June 28, 2019)
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
    Middle name was Herbert
Portrayed Elliot Novak on Alice (1983-85)
Portrayed Eddie Gregg on Hill Street Blues (1982-86)
Portrayed Maury Abrams on NYPD Blue (1994-95)
Acted in 'This is Spinal Tap,' 'The Man With One Red Shoe,' 'The Golden Child,' 'The Couch Trip,' 'No Holds Barred,' 'Immediate Family,' 'Opposites Attract,' and 'A Civil Action'

Why he might be annoying:

He appeared as Coco the Gay Cook on the pilot episode of The Golden Girls.
He was supposed to be a regular fixture on the show and deliver witty one-liners in the kitchen, but the casting of Estelle Getty as Sophia rendered this kind of character obsolete. He was written off and never mentioned again after the pilot.
His being recognized mainly as Coco has misled many to believe he himself was also gay (he was married twice, both to women, and had three kids between the two).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had small roles in the Woody Allen films 'Annie Hall' and 'Manhattan.'
If he had stayed on The Golden Girls, he would have been the first gay character to be a series regular on a mainstream TV show.
He had a memorable scene as the mohel in 'The Bris' episode of Seinfeld.
He was married to his second wife for over twenty years until her death.
He was reported missing by his son and was found dead a week later on July 13, 2019.
The autopsy report concluded that he had crashed his car in a remote mountain area on a drive with his dog, and then fell off a steep cliff trying to go for help (his dog's body was found in the abandoned car).
