Why he might be annoying:

    He was typecast as nerds.
He said, 'Acting is great fun, but being an actor is just horrible.... You're so vulnerable, and the jobs last so short, and it's all based on how you look.'
He took a role in 'I Love Trouble' solely so he could pitch the script for 'Mother Night' directly to star Nick Nolte, having been dismissed earlier by Nolte's agent. (Then again, it worked.)

Why he might not be annoying:

'Christine' costar Alexandra Paul said, 'He is the nicest person I have ever met.'
When he began directing, 'I found I had a talent for, in the midst of crisis, keeping a cool head.'
His directing role models are Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, and Nicholas Roeg.
He was nominated for Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature for 'The Chocolate War' and Best Screenplay for 'A Midnight Clear.'
