Why they might be annoying:

Though they had an 'American sound,' they were all natives of England.
Rejected band names included 'Brandywine' and 'Hootch.'
Their style of playing has been described in varying degrees as boogie rock, blues rock, hard rock, arena rock and metal.
There first album was titled 'Foghat.' Their second album was also titled titled 'Foghat,' complete with a picture of a rock and a (dinner) roll on the cover.
Their 'Greatest Hits' album contains the much shorter Top 40 version of 'Slow Ride,' their biggest hit.
After 1975 they went through a series of bass players.
They faded into obscurity during the MTV fueled 80's and went through many reincarnations, including 'Lonesome Dave's Foghat,' 'Roger Earl's Foghat' and 'New Foghat.'
What the heck is a Foghat?

Why they might not be annoying:

OK, here is what a foghat is. Their name came from a game of Scrabble. When challenged by a friend and future bandmate, 10-year-old Peverett insisted 'foghat' was a word; 'it's a hat you wear in the fog.'
Their 1977 album 'Foghat Live' sold more than 2 million units.
They earned five gold and two platinum albums.
During their heyday in the 70's they regularly sold out large venues and stadiums, even without benefit of Top 40 single air-play (except for 'Slow Ride' which peaked at #20 in 1976).
Peverett died of cancer at age 56 (2000).
His widow died less than a year later (December 2, 2000).
His motto was, 'If you don't sweat, it ain't rock n' roll.'
