Why she might be annoying:

She was nicknamed 'Helen the Second' for frequently being runner-up to Helen Wills Moody: she lost to Moody 11 of the 12 times they faced each other.
Despite being linked together in the public mind, she and Moody rarely talked to each other off the court.
In her obituary, the New York Times declared, '[Her] contribution to tennis history is as the gracious runner-up.'

Why she might not be annoying:

Her one defeat of Moody, at the 1933 US Nationals final, ended a six-year streak of Moody not losing a match.
She was the first woman to break tradition at Wimbledon and wear shorts instead of a skirt: 'It seemed the sensible thing to do.'
She served with Naval intelligence during World War II, and was one of five women to achieve the rank of commander.
