Why he might be annoying:

His birth name was Wilver and his nickname was Pops.
He won the 1979 MVP Award in a tie with Keith Hernandez.
He handed out gold stars to his teammates for good performances during the 1979 season.
Manager Chuck Tanner only received one star during the season for giving him a day off.
It was generally thought that Hernandez deserved the award more based on level of play, but that Stargell got more press because he handed out the gold stars.
Several of the writers who voted didn't even place him on their ballots.
He made ‘We Are Family’ the theme song of the 1979 world champion Pirates.

He played his entire career for one team.
He was as noted for his leadership as for his playing ability.
He was the oldest player to win the MVP Award.
He was also the MVP of the League Championship Series and the World Series in 1979.
His performance in game 7 of the 1979 World Series was named one of the 10 greatest game 7 performances by the Hall of Fame.
He is the only player to hit a home run out of Dodger Stadium and he did it twice.
He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
