Why she might be annoying:

She dropped out of high school due to poor health.
Despite a lack of proper credentials, she was hired as a first-grade teacher during World War I (when most male teachers had been drafted), based on having taught Sunday school.
'The Boxcar Children' books were criticized for depicting children with no parental supervision.
After her death, her publisher hired ghostwriters to continue the series, cranking out more than a hundred additional 'Boxcar Children' titles.

Why she might not be annoying:

Starting at age five, she would give her grandfather a hand-made book as a present each Christmas.
After becoming a teacher, she took education courses at Yale University's summer school.
She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She said, 'The original 'Boxcar Children' raised a storm of protest from librarians who thought the children were having too good a time without any parental control. That is exactly why children like it!'
