    Birth name is Mikhail Afanas'evich Bulgakov
    Wrote novels including 'The White Guard' and his most well known work 'Master and Margarita'

Why he might be annoying:

    He looked like D. W. Griffith.
    He smoked.
    He wrote a few plays falsely in favor of Stalin in order to avoid prosecution.
    He had to rewrite 'Master and Margarita' from memory after he burned the draft manuscript in a stove.
    Due to its satirical content, 'Master and Margarita' was banned until 1967.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served as a field doctor during World War I.
    Despite satirizing Stalin's regime in many books and plays, Stalin favored some of his works.
    He rewrote 'Master and Margarita' purely from memory.
    He wrote a letter to Stalin requesting permission to emigrate. (1938)
    Stalin replied with a phone call denying him that.
    He died from a kidney disorder.
    He is highly regarded as one of the greatest Soviet novelists.
