The Resume

    (1903-1989)
    Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Actual name is the Toronto Marlborough Athletic Club
Member of the Ontario Hockey Association (1904-61; 1963-80), Metro Junior Hockey League (1961-63) and the Ontario Hockey League (1961-63)

Why Toronto Marlboros might be annoying:

Their nickname gave off the impression they were sponsored by Marlboro cigarettes.
They were swept by the Ottawa Silver Seven in their lone appearance in the Stanley Cup challenge (1904).
Their legacy as a junior powerhouse was tarnished in their later seasons by lack of success.
They left the OHA to start up the Metro Junior Hockey League, only to return to the OHA when that league ceased operations.
They were owned by Harold Ballard, who micromanaged the team to the point of no return.
This resulted in the franchise relocating to Hamilton, Ontario, ending the history of the Marlboros.

Why Toronto Marlboros might not be annoying:

They were named after The Duke of Marlborough, and were known as the Marlies and the Dukes for short.
They were considered one of Canada's storied junior franchises (prior to the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats).
    They won seven Memorial Cup championships during their history (1929, 1955, 1956, 1964, 1967, 1973, 1975).
They rose to prominence in Canadian junior hockey circles, after Conn Smythe purchased the team.
They were sponsored by the Toronto Maple Leafs, which provided the latter team with players, prior to the NHL Amateur Draft being changed to a universal format.
Their shortened nickname 'Marlies' was adopted by the Maple Leafs AHL franchise in 2005, as a way to avoid any connection with the Marlboro cigarette brand.
