U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (November 2, 1963- )
    Born in Athens, Georgia
Secretary of State of Georgia (2010-18)
    Elected Governor of Georgia (2018)
    Republican
    No relation to Jack Kemp

Why he might be annoying:

While secretary of state, his office twice accidentally made public the personal information (including social security numbers) of over 6 million Georgians.
He was the only state official to turn down the Obama administration's recommended measures to protect states from Russian meddling via hackers during the 2016 election, claiming they violated 'states rights.'
He refused calls to step down from the Secretary of State job while running for Governor, which many characterized as 'overseeing his own election.'
He often ran to the right of his primary opponent, (falsely) claiming that he 'fought Obama twice (and won) to stop illegal immigrants from voting.'
His campaign slogan was 'Yep I just said that!'
He was criticized for airing a campaign ad in which he appeared to jokingly point a shotgun at (presumably) an actor playing one of his teenage daughter's dates.
His win over Stacey Abrams was overshadowed by accusations that he had engaged in acts of voter suppression as Secretary of State, most notably his office's decision to investigate the Georgia Democratic Party for 'possible cybercrimes' (which they labeled 'a political stunt').

Why he might not be annoying:

He and his wife met when they were just toddlers at a family get-together (they would be classmates in both high school and college).
He graduated from the University of Georgia, with a major in agriculture.
He played college football under the legendary UGA Bulldogs coach Vince Dooley, whom he has remained close with over the years.
In his first job out of college, he was an independent contractor who dug ditches for a living.
He was accused of voter suppression, but he has arguably made voter registration easier by establishing Georgia’s first Online Voter Registration System.
He was able to beat Stacey Abrams despite her having the backing of Oprah Winfrey (but, admittedly his having the support of a sitting President and Vice-President probably didn't much hurt his chances).
