    Introduced his first fragrance, Azzaro Parfum Couture, in 1975

Why he might be annoying:

    He was known for designing flamboyant dresses.
    He didn't have a menswear line until 1992.
    Despite his popularity, Azzaro never designed haute couture clothing and was not a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

    His parents were Italian but he spent his childhood and teenage years in Tunis.
    His Anneau dress worn by Marisa Berenson was featured on the cover of Elle magazine.
    He was one of the few major designers of the period who was also straight.
    Tina Turner loved his dresses and appeared on the covers of Rolling Stone and Ebony wearing his clothing line.
    His worldwide market share in men’s fragrances was once estimated at up to 10 percent.
    His fashion house was booming at the time of his death.
