Why Perth, Australia might be annoying:

It was not the only location to be named for the central Scottish city Peairt (another is in the Province of Ontario).
Rottnest Island, aka ‘Rotte Nest’ (rat’s nest), was named by a Dutch explorer who thought the small herbivorous marsupials known as quokkas were giant rats.
Not much helped by its remote geographic position, its most significant manufacturing industries center around the immediate needs of its inhabitants (making imports cheaper).
Despite a significant Greek population throughout the continent, it isn’t among the area’s top 15 nominated ancestries.
It has the world’s largest collection of wildflowers (some 12,000 species).
Heirisson Island is actually a sanctuary for kangaroos, not hedgehogs (aka ‘herissons’).

Why Perth, Australia might not be annoying:

The mining boom stemming from the 19th-century gold rush at Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie caused the population to expand sevenfold in 20 years.
The tallest building in the city – Central Park – is named for a small park at its base.
There are whale-watching boat tours (particularly during the migration period each September).
In the 2016 census, two in every five residents identified as being of British ancestry (with roughly 10,000 more such residents than the far-more populated Sydney).
When city residents turned on their house lights for John Glenn’s orbit around the Earth (Friendship 7, 1962), the nickname of ‘City of Light’ was born. (They did the same thing in 1998 for his Space Shuttle pass.)
