The Resume

    (September 16, 1965-April 7, 1967)
    Aired on NBC (56 episodes)
    Neville Brand as Reese Bennett
    Peter Brown as Chad Cooper
    William Smith as Joe Riley
Philip Carey as Capt. Edward Parmalee
Robert Wolders as Erik Hunter (season 2)
Based on the Virginian episode ‘We’ve Lost a Train’ (April 1965)
The humorous exploits of a patrol of Texas Rangers – versus their decorous superior – based at the border between Mexico and Laredo, Texas

Why Laredo (Series) might be annoying:

Prior to shooting the pilot, Brown stated, each regular cast member was made to watch Gunga Din three times.
Lane Bradford – a Yonkers-born B-Western actor – guested in five episodes without ever playing the same character twice.
Though marked as a regular cast member, in second-season summaries, Claude Akins appeared in only five episodes total (as Cotton Bruckmeister).
GetTV labeled it The A-Team (which would be on that same network in 18 years) in the Old West.
Its first-season competition was so ferocious (My Three Sons and Bewitched) that it moved to a no-less competitive slot.

Why Laredo (Series) might not be annoying:

Being loosely spun off from The Virginian, there would be a good deal of personnel sharing.
In an inversion of the usual formulaic Western, it focused just as much on the Rangers’ antics and shortcomings as on the tasks they were assigned.
During its entire run, there were not more than eight Westerns – where there were once 31 – in the prime time lineup.
Brown’s real-life horse Amigo was an honorary cast member, as Cooper’s mount.
While no main character appeared in every single episode, Smith – the last living cast member – would miss only two.
