TV Personality

The Resume

    (March 31, 1928-December 2, 2020)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
    Broadcaster, interviewer, and television host
    Worked for CBS and NBC
Hosted the annual television specials ‘Summer Movie Magic’ and ‘Holiday Movie Magic’
Produced and hosted the Oscar specials ‘And the Winners Are…’ and ‘Academy Awards Movie Magic’

Why he might be annoying:

One of his TV specials was called ‘Macho Men at the Movies.’
The first news story he broke was a dispute between Frank Sinatra and a Los Angeles restaurant parking attendant (he took Sinatra’s side and it got him in the good graces of The Rat Pack).
He drew ‘biting the hand that feeds him’ feature articles for both Time and Life magazines (a nod to his mocking television while simultaneously on television).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first entertainment interviewer and reviewer in the history of television.
He was the first local newsman to ever work for two networks simultaneously.
As a young reporter, he covered Frank Sinatra’s involvement in John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign.
He produced and camera directed the Bob Fosse musical ‘Pippin: His Life and Times,’ in 1981, the first Broadway show ever captured on film live in-performance.
He was a founding member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (now the Critics Choice Association).
