Why he might be annoying:

He had the same middle name, Lee, as Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.
He died right before Metallica became one of the world's most famous bands.
Some of the earlier Metallica fans seem to have an obsession with him.
Some newer Metallica fans don't know that he ever was a member of the band.

Why he might not be annoying:

During a tour in Sweden, Metallica's tour bus skidded out of control and rolled several times before coming to a halt.
When the band members came out of the bus to see what had happened, they found him pinned dead underneath (1986).
Metallica released 'Cliff 'Em All' in his honor (1987).
He was known for his melodic and almost harmonic style of bass-playing.
He is considered to be one of the greatest bassists of the 80s and one of the most influential musicians ever.
