    He got into a Twitter war with Piers Morgan after Morgan was hired as a soccer commentator by Fox.
    He has done so many ads for Walkers crisps that they temporarily renamed the salt and vinegar flavor 'Salt-n-Lineker.'

    Even after becoming a pro soccer player, he helped out at his dad's fruit and vegetable stand in the Leicester Market.
    He was the first English player to receive the Golden Boot as the top scorer in the World Cup (1986).
    During a long career, he never received a yellow or red card.
    His oldest son, George, survived a rare form of leukemia as an infant.
    He has been a patron of the charity Leukaemia Busters.
    He headed a £5 million effort to rescue the Leicester City football club from being liquidated, personally investing a six-figure sum (2002).
    On the 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' Christmas special, he and rugby union player Austin Healey won £50,000 for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation (2008).
