Why he might be annoying:

He was obese.
He fought for the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
He was a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
Some believe he was appointed by Taft because he did not think he would live long, as Taft greatly desired the Chief Justice position.
When he reviewed the Standard Oil antitrust case, he agreed with the suit but changed the law so it could only punish 'unreasonable' restraint of trade.
His court upheld the Espionage Act which jailed many socialists and violated the First Amendment.
He looks like Larry Flynt.

Why he might not be annoying:

He lost everything, including the family plantation, in the aftermath of the Civil War.
He upheld the constitutionality of child labor laws passed by Congress.
He abolished the corrupt Louisiana Lottery while he worked in the Louisiana State Senate (1894).
He was the first Associate Justice to be elevated to the Chief Justice position.
He was a Democrat who was given his seat by Taft, a Republican.
