Philanthropist

The Resume

    (April 2, 1940- )
    Born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin
Supporter of conservative and evangelical Christian causes
Co-founder of Friess Associates (mutual fund, with wife Lynnette Estes, 1974)
Degree in business administration at the University of Wisconsin (Madison; president of Chi Phi fraternity)
1999 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award recipient

Why he might be annoying:

It is pathetically easy to confuse the spelling of his name (for ‘Freiss’).
Yes, that is his actual first name (Stephen being his middle, rather than the other way around).
He regularly donates to Republican coffers.
The media regularly assumed him to be a billionaire (ten figures).
Three years after the 1999 Columbine massacre, he made a speech blaming the act on liberals.
He made a run for the 2018 gubernatorial election in Wyoming, but lost in the primary.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a first-generation college graduate (Chi Phi).
He issued a grant worth $2,5 million for Rachel’s Challenge (founded by the parents of Rachel Scott, the first victim in the Columbine incident).
Forbes magazine put him alongside Warren Buffett among the 10 Greatest Fund Managers (June 2018).
He was a key backer of Rick Santorum’s presidential aspirations (2012; well, if Democrats can do corporate donations…).
As evidenced by his invitation of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to the annual Horatio Alger dinner (April 2019), he has no issues with socialist viewpoints.
For someone who was unhappy because of a ‘marriage flirting with divorce and emotionally distant children,’ that one marriage led to four children.
