    Composed the operettas 'Maytime' (1917), 'The Student Prince' (1924), 'Desert Song' (1926), and 'New Moon' (1928)
    Hosted the radio show 'An Evening with Romberg' (1945-48)

Why he might be annoying:

    His popularity dropped off in the 1930s when the operetta went out of vogue.
    He conceded that his music was decidedly middlebrow.
    He frequently recycled melodies, with Kitty Carlisle noting, 'A friend of mine told me that when you went to the premier of a Romberg show, you could whistle the tunes on your way into the theater.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He learned to play violin at age six and piano at age eight.
    He worked for American military intelligence during World War I, taking advantage of his fluency in Hungarian, German, and Serbian.
    At its peak, 'Maytime' was so popular that it played in played in two theaters on opposite sides of 44th Street; starting times were staggered so Romberg could dash between theaters to conduct both overtures.
    'The Student Prince' played on Broadway for 608 performances, making it the longest-running musical of the decade.
    He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1970).
